This preliminary step assesses the feasibility of the RFID integration project during a brief visit to the customer’s site of operations to define the customer’s general needs. Following an examination of environmental factors and an overview of the client’s business processes, our team of RFID experts will determine the best route for RFID deployment. A site survey is essential to clarify the customer's unique business model and its relevant operational aspects as well as to identify and address the risks involved, specifically in relation to where and how RFID technology will ultimately be deployed.

A site survey is carried out with:

An analysis of onsite Radio Frequency (RF) interference using:
 Spectrum Analyzer;
 Digital Scout;
 Interview with IT staff about infrastructure and sources of RF;
 Software simulating RF interference patterns.

A Business Process Analysis with:
 Site operational walkthroughs with floor staff;
 Legacy system walkthroughs with IT personnel;
 Recordable site documentation (floor plan photos, picking slips, invoices, traveler documentation, etc) .

Results include an onsite interference analysis and report summarizing the best and worst locations and/or period of optimal RF interference levels. A second document underlining RFID best practices pertaining to the customer’s business and industry vertical concludes with a recommendation based on the analytical results of the survey and the customer’s objectives. Finally, the customer also receives a document outlining a proposed RFID integration roadmap in clear steps on how to achieve RFID system integration successfully.
